WE ARE THE GIRLS CHORUS!

"We are sO much More than Singing"

MISSION OF THE CHORUS:

To provide membership opportunity to all girls who demonstrate the ability, desire and commitment to excellence in vocal and choral performance, to enhance the quality of life in the community through music education and performance, and to create public awareness of the positive benefits of the choral art for girls and young women.

ABOUT US:

The Phoenix Girls Chorus is comprised of girls between the ages of seven and eighteen serving Phoenix and the surrounding communities. This 29 year old choral organization draws from every area of the valley, girls who love to sing! Founded in 1981 by Daniel Hooper, the Phoenix Girls Chorus was originally a single choir.  Under the artistic direction of Sue Kenly Marshall from 1985-2010, the Chorus grew to a five-choir program serving approximately 190 girls each year. Ms. Danya Tiller, Artistic Director, and Mrs. Lena Sewell, Associate Director, continue to educate the girls on vocal development, performance skills, sight singing, music theory, foreign language diction, and choreography. Musical repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum of music including classical, sacred, folk, contemporary choral literature, Broadway pieces and foreign language selections.

Touring is an integral part of the Phoenix Girls Chorus education experience. The three upper level choirs travel regionally, nationally and internationally. Previous tours include such places as Germany, France, Canada, and Prague. Recent festivals include the International Kathaumixw in Canada, the Somerset Festival in England, the PICCFEST in Oregon, and the Pacific Rim Festival in Hawaii. Most tours involve travel to a number of states, provinces or countries and include performances in a variety of venues. Our mid-level choir begins their tour experience by traveling and performing in Arizona and regionally, including Disneyland.

The Phoenix Girls Chorus focus is to provide a nurturing environment where singers develop their music skills to the best of their ability, form strong and lasting friendships, and make lifetime memories. Many singers remain in the program for ten or more seasons, and alumni often return to sing with the Chorus on a regular basis.
